Manufacturer's response: Dear Pauline, thank you for the generous review and the constructive suggestion. We have produced a diluted presentation of DRAQ5 (at 500 µM rather than 5 mM). The product code is DR05500 and, having reviewed your protocol, would perhaps allow you to skip the pre-dilution step entirely e.g. 4 µl into a final volume of 100 µl would give a final concentration of 20 µM. Perhaps this might assist you better?
